Ironhold Dominion

★★★★☆ 4.4 Editor rating

Ironhold Dominion asks you to think like a general, not a button-masher. You carve out a stronghold, manage food and ore, and march armies across a grid where high ground and river crossings genuinely change outcomes. Rush blindly and you'll lose a legion to a well-placed ambush.

I appreciated that matches can be paused and resumed — a rare courtesy in the genre. The tutorial eases you in, but the real depth shows up around hour five when supply lines start to matter. Cutting an enemy's grain route felt more satisfying than any direct assault.

It leans slow and thoughtful, so if you want instant action this isn't it. For anyone who likes planning three moves ahead, though, it's a quiet gem.
