What separates good touch controls from bad ones

What separates good touch controls from bad ones

I've uninstalled otherwise great games purely because the controls felt like wrestling a wet bar of soap. Touch input is hard to get right, and when a studio nails it, it's worth celebrating.

The best mobile controls assume one hand and a crowded train. That means big, forgiving touch zones, no tiny buttons jammed into corners, and gestures that feel intentional. Neon Drift Rally gets this right with its simple tap-to-steer, hold-to-drift scheme.

Bad controls usually come from porting a design meant for a gamepad. If I have to stretch my thumb across the whole screen to reach an action button, something's gone wrong. Legends of Slots, by contrast, keeps everything within thumb reach, which is why it plays so comfortably.

When you try a new game, spend the first five minutes just feeling the inputs. If your hand aches already, it won't get better.
